(Senior) Principal Podiatrist Rehabilitation Department

Job Description

The Principal Podiatrist is responsible for managing specialised workgroups within a subsection and for providing specialised assessment and treatment to patients referred for podiatry.  He / she will supervise and mentor the senior podiatrists and principal podiatrists in the workgroup.


The Challenges

  • Assess and manage patients referred for podiatry independently and implement appropriate treatment plans, applying specialised podiatry knowledge and skills.
  • Report to referring doctor and other members of the medical team.
  • Document patient podiatry records and charge patients accurately.
  • Update individual performance statistical records regularly.
  • Comply with clinical and service standards.
  • Supervise senior podiatrists and principal podiatrist in the workgroup.
  • Practice within areas of professional competence and seek clinical support from supervisor / other healthcare professionals when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare members and participate in case conferences.
  • Update monthly performance reports for the subsection.
  • Monitor key performance indicators of the subsection (clinical / service quality, revenue and productivity).
  • Plan and coordinate research initiatives within the subsection.
  • Ensure clinical protocols and SOPs within the subsection are regularly reviewed and updated.
  • Manage projects assigned to the subsection.
  • Spearhead and lead in departmental activities.
  • Prepare and regularly update the inventory for therapy equipment for the workgroup.
  • Oversee the development, promotion and marketing of new clinical services in the subsection.
  • Budget for the workgroups in the subsection.
  • Co-ordinate clinical education for podiatry students assigned to the subsection.
  • Review and update the induction checklist / kit relevant to the subsection.
  • Contribute to departmental in-service training programmes, hospital educational talks and external talks / workshops / forums / seminars.
  • Ensure training for staff in the subsection is in alignment with corporate and departmental objectives.
  • Identify and implement work redesign solutions in the workgroup.
  • Actively update podiatry knowledge and skills.


Job Requirements

  • Recognised Degree in Podiatry.
  • Special interest or specialisation in Podiatric Biomechanics preferred
  • Postgraduate qualifications in relevant clinical specialty preferred.
  • 8 years of relevant work experience preferred.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good supervisory and coaching skills.
  • Service oriented and customer focused.
  • Result oriented and able to work in a team
  • Competent in IT skills (Microsoft Excel / Word / Access / Powerpoint)
