R&D Intellectual Property Engineer (Contract)

Job Description

IP Engineer works at the forefront of technology and deal with technical innovations every day. He/She would be required to keep abreast with current developments and trends in Test and Measurement Industry.
This challenging, research oriented role combines scientific expertise, analytical skill and intellectual property skill.

The IP Engineer is responsible to
• Assist and advise business partners on intellectual property (IP) matters, including patents, copyright, trade secret, trademarks, contracts and agreements
• Work with R&D and Marketing to evaluate the patentability, commercial value and business significance of technical disclosures and guide IP decisions
• Continually review all R&D projects to monitor for patentability and IP risks
• Conduct IP assessments of business risks that include right-to-use studies and patent analyses for infringement and validity issues
• Analyze IP information to enable the creation and protection of IP assets eg. performing IP/ Technology/ Competitive Landscape studies to assess technology, market & competition
• Deliver timely, value-added IP / technology reports to business partners for strategic decisions making
• Support business partners to develop, maintain and enhance IP portfolio to support business goals and objectives.
• Drive innovation process and facilitate brainstorming and ideation and submission of invention disclosures by engineers
• Provide organizational IP training for engineers
• Work with Legal function to review and Identify IP issues inherent in agreements
• Drive/participate in the development and continuous improvement of the IP process to ensure effective/ efficient operations
• The role may expand to include docket management, portfolio management and filing and prosecution of patent applications

Job Qualifications

• Strong technical background with proven technical competencies
• Strong interest in researching technical information and in combining technical expertise with legal skills
• Strong analytical and communication skills
• Work accurately and in a structured way, with an eye for detail
• A keen reader, researcher and problem solver
• Able to handle multiple demands and competing priorities, and meet deadlines is a must.
• An intermediate knowledge of patents, the patenting process, and previous experience with patent searching tools and techniques is preferred, though not required
• Work experience in T&M industry is not essential, but would be an advantage
• Bachelors/Masters/PhD degree in Engineering
